My interest in the Lewis and Clark Expedition, otherwise known as The Core of Discovery started way before I knew I was a descendant of William Clark. My family got an encyclopedia set when I was in my early years in elementary school and part of that set was a series of history books, which changed my life. One of those books was about Lewis and Clark.

There were books about The Intercontinental Railroad., The Pony Express and several other historical books, all of which I read and then in the sixth grade I read the entire encyclopedia, all 26 volumes, from cover to cover, just for the fun and knowledge of it. Also read to entire Bible about the same time. Have been hooked on history ever since then and fascinated with as I call them, The Trails. California Trail, Oregon Train, Santa Fe Trail, Mormon Trail and of course the most important of all, The Core Of Discovery or The Lewis and Clark Trail

As a part of this website I will be laying out a travel plan for going on the Lewis and Clark Trail all the way from Pittsburgh, where Lewis assembled the beginnings of his crew and designed and purchased the boats as well as most of the supplies for the trip, to the Pacific Ocean where they camped out and then turned around and went back across the continent.

The plan is to do this in my motorhome. I was going to do this several years ago, but Covid stopped that in it’s tracks and during that time I had some family issues with Covid and several other problems where life threatening things seemed to be around every corner for a couple of years. That time has, it seems, finally passed and I am making plans for the trip again.

The idea is that I will put up the original stopping locations from the journals and then get as close to those locations as possible. You can read the journals and then I will be writing my own journal, in the form of a blog and taking a myriad of photos so you will be able to see what and where those sites have become and get as close to a feel of the trip as possible.
